Central Machine Works

Turning an old machine shop into a brewery seemed like a successful recipe from the start and if there was one goal at the outset it was to preserve the character of this beautiful industrial building that has long been a fixture in east Austin since the 1940’s. The opportunity to open the space with some large areas of glass, mimicking the existing steel windows, created the backdrop for Maker’s collaboration with local designer David Clark of Kartwheel Studio and the impetus for the impressive pivoting steel doors designed and fabricated by Kartwheel. An older addition to the original barrel vaulted structure provided the perfect space to house the bar and restrooms leaving the bulk of the machine shop floor to hold the brewing equipment and common areas.
